• Testing for oestradiol is done in case of disorders of the sexual cycle (repeated determination), neoplasia of the ovaries, ovary cysts and suspected Sertoli cell tumour.
• Dog, ferret: Diagnostic testing for suspected hyperoestrogenism and sex hormone-producing disorders of the adrenal cortex. Included in the Adrenal Profile.
• Guinea pig: Not suitable for diagnosing ovarian cysts.
• Horse: Produced cyclically in the ovarian follicles (“oestrus hormone”); during gestation, there is massive oestrogen biosynthesis in the foetal-maternal unit. Oestrone sulphate is validated for hormonal pregnancy diagnosis.
