LABOKLIN Service ID: 1322
Testing for suspected pheochromocytoma.
| Material | EDTA plasma 1 ml (centrifuged immediately, pipetted off) - Please pay attention to the note – country-specific! – on the submission form regarding the temperature during storage/transport!
|
| Method | Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LCMS) |
| Species list | Dog, others on request |
| Duration | 2–6 working days |
| Remark | - If the results are up to four times the upper reference range, overlaps with other diseases (especially Cushing's syndrome) and stress-induced catecholamine release are possible. Concentrations within the reference range do not necessarily rule out pheochromocytoma.
- Normetanephrine is considered the more sensitive parameter in dogs, as it can be used to distinguish more reliably between pheochromocytoma and other diseases.
- Medications such as phenoxybenzamine, metoclopramide, β-blockers, calcium channel blockers or sympathomimetics can increase catecholamine concentrations.
