Birds
Reoviruses are non-enveloped double-stranded RNA viruses and are regularly detected in various bird species. They can cause inapparent infections, but are also associated with various clinical changes. Liver and intestine are frequently affected. Respiratory infections also occur. Fatal infections are mainly seen in Old World parrots.
Reptiles
Reoviruses are frequently found in snakes and lizards, but occasionally also in chelonians.
In snakes and lizards, they are associated with respiratory symptoms, particularly pneumonia. In lizards, they are also involved in skin lesions (papillomatous changes) and enteritis. In turtles, reoviruses are also found in association with respiratory symptoms and stomatitis.
