Remark

  • Elevated levels can be caused by diseases of various parenchymatous organs but also by muscle damage. If the latter, it cannot be distinguished between damage of the skeletal muscle and damage of the cardiac muscle. Simultaneous increase of CK indicates myogenic origin.
  • Cat: sensitive marker of hepatopathies; for differentiation of muscle damages the value of CK should be determined additionally
  • Horse: indicates lesions of the skeletal muscle (in combination with other parameters, for example LDH, CK) or the liver
