α-HBDH

LABOKLIN Service ID: 2

α-Hydroxybutyrate Dehydrogenase

Material

serum or EDTA plasma or heparin plasma 0.5 ml

Method

photometry

Duration

1 day

Remark

  • This iIsoenzyme of LDH is found in many kinds of tissue, especially in cardiac and skeletal muscle and in the liver, the activity of α-HBDH varies depending on the species.
  • If α-HBDH in the LDH/α-HBDH ratio is disproportionately increased, it indicates possible damage of the cardiac muscle. Determination of c-troponin I concentration has replaced the analysis of α-HBDH in case of this indication, though.
  • Proportional or slight elevations of this enzyme point to other causes (e.g. liver damage, damage of sceletal muscle, haemolysis and others). In this case, values of CK and AST should be considered.
