CK (Creatine Kinase)

LABOKLIN Service ID: 8

Material

Serum or EDTA plasma or heparin plasma 0.5 ml

Method

Photometry

Duration

Reporting of results on the day the sample is received (Mon–Sat)

Remark

  • Highest activity in skeletal muscles, followed by cardiac and brain tissue
  • CK is a sensitive but non-specific marker for muscle cell damage. Elevated serum concentrations occur in myopathies, traumata, i.m. injections or after heavy exertion.
  • Brain damage does not cause increased serum CK concentrations if the blood-brain barrier is intact.
