LDH (Lactate Dehydrogenase)

LABOKLIN Service ID: 11

Material

Serum or EDTA plasma or heparin plasma 0.5 ml

Method

Photometry

Duration

Reporting of results on the day the sample is received (Mon–Sat)

Remark

  • LDH is composed of five isoenzymes and is found in many tissues, especially in the liver, in cardiac and skeletal muscles.
  • Since erythrocytes contain high concentrations of LDH, even slight haemolysis can lead to elevated serum concentrations.
  • Increased activity occurs in myopathies, cardiomyopathies and liver diseases.
  • The ratio of α-HBDH to LDH can indicate involvement of cardiac or skeletal muscles.
