• In addition to SDMA, creatinine is the most specific indicator for renal function. Due to the reserve capacity of the kidneys, elevated concentrations only occur when glomerular function is reduced by more than 70%. Lipaemia and haemolysis may influence the test results.
• In well-muscled or trained dogs, creatinine may be slightly increased physiologically without there being a renal dysfunction.
