• Blood tests are only useful in the febrile phase. Recently, the submission of organ/swab material plus EB has been recommended. The samples are pooled to increase the chance of detection.
• PCR for EHV-1 includes differentiation of the neuropathogenic variant.
• Testing for EHV-1 and/or EHV-4 or EHV-2 and EHV-5 is also part of several profiles (see Profiles / Horse / PCR Profiles).
