General information
Emydomyces testavorans was first described in 2019 and is a keratinophilic fungus belonging to the order Onygenales. It has so far only been documented in aquatic turtles and terrapins, both in captive and wild animals. Infections have been described in association with various shell lesions (especially ulcerative), osteonecrosis, but also space-occupying epithelial inclusion cysts.
