Urinalysis incl. Sediment

LABOKLIN Service ID: 2001

semiquantitative collection of clinical chemical and cellular parameters and measurement of the specific gravity

Material

urine 5 ml

Parameter

specific gravity, pH value, protein, haemoglobin/myoglobin, bilirubin, urobilinogen, glucose, nitrite, ketone bodies and erythrocytes, leukocytes, bacteria, yeasts, cylinders, epithelia, crystals

Method

dry chemistry, photometry, microscopy

Duration

1 - 2 days

Remark

  • Diagnostic clarification of urinary tract diseases and superior diseases (liver or kidney disease or metabolic disorders) which may lead to changes in urination (polyuria, stranguria and oliguria).
  • If the dog is being treated with allopurinol, please indicate it on the submission form.
  • This test is also offered in combination with a urine culture test (bacteriology). In this case, 6 ml of urine or 5 ml of urine + swab with medium or 5 ml of urine + Uricult are needed for the examination.
  • When combined with bacteriology, the test duration is 2 – 3 days or 1 – 3 days if Uricult is submitted.
  • For the bacteriological examination, collecting urine by cystocentesis is the most suitable method.
  • If characteristic crystals (see category Image Gallery) are found in the sediment, the animal species, urine pH and specific gravity should be included to draw clear conclusions about the chemical composition. Larger concretions can be analysed by FTIR (see Urinary Calculi).
