  • Autoantibodies are detected against type 2M muscle fibres in the masticatory muscles, which occur primarily in the masseter and temporalis muscles (as well as in the pterygoid muscle).
  • Clinically, affected animals usually show symmetrical atrophy of these muscle groups, sometimes with trismus and pain.
