• The eae gene is a virulence factor of E. coli. The eae gene (E. coli attaching and effacing) encodes the production of intimin, which permits E. coli to attach itself to the intestinal cells.
• Detection of the eae gene is also part of the Faecal Profile Pathogenic Bacteria (see Profiles/Screenings – Small Animals / Faecal Profiles) .
