T3/T4 Antibodies
LABOKLIN Service ID: 2525
- Autoantibodies against the thyroid hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) can lead to falsely elevated or reduced concentrations when determining total T3 and total T4.
- If such antibodies are present, it can complicate the interpretation of thyroid function tests and lead to false diagnoses (e.g. alleged hypo- or hyperthyroidism).
- The detection of T3 and T4 antibodies can be done if the laboratory findings show a discrepancy (e.g. elevated total T4 with clinically suspected hypothyroidism), if there are noticeable differences in the course of hormone diagnosis or if autoimmune thyroiditis is suspected.
- For predisposed breeds, the test is also useful as part of the breeding approval process.
