NABE (Net Acid-Base Excretion)

LABOKLIN Service ID: 1825

Material

Urine 15 ml, fresh (sample container filled to maximum capacity)

  • Please pay attention to the note – countryspecific – on the submission form regarding the temperature during storage/transport!

Method

Species list

Cattle

Duration

2–3 working days

Remark

  • Please fill the sample container to the brim so that no air is contained.
  • Both spontaneous urine and catheter urine can be sent in.
  • NABE concentrations provide information about the acid-base status. The advantage of NABE compared to a simple measurement of urinary pH is its greater stability regarding stress, feed and water intake, and renal compensation. Together with the blood parameters ketone bodies (β-HBS) and free fatty acids (NEFA), NABE represents the minimum spectrum of metabolic monitoring in cattle. NABE concentrations must, amongst others, be analysed in the context of feed intake, stage of lactation and the herd.
