  • The most common coagulation disorders in dogs are caused by thrombocytopenia. Platelet measurement is recommended prior to planned surgery.
  • Low counts are also seen in cases of tick-borne infections and travel-related diseases.

Material

EDTA blood (if applicable heparin blood) 1 ml + blood smear

Remark

  • Platelet aggregates in the sample can cause pseudothrombocytopenia.
  • Validity check by microscope for platelet concentrations <90 G/l or <60 G/l (equidae).
  • No microscopic platelet count.
