Lactate

LABOKLIN Service ID: 24

  • Anaerobic degradation of glucose leads to the formation of lactate. Elevated lactate concentrations may be caused by: increased formation of lactate due to a higher glucose uptake or increased glycogenolysis (e.g. diabetes mellitus), impaired metabolisation (hypovolemic, cardiovascular or neurogenic shock) or enhanced formation due to oxygen deficiency in the tissue (fitness level, stress due to blood sampling, increase of lactate in immature neonates).
  • Cattle: Elevation occurs in case of ruminal acidosis, circulatory disorders, severe pneumonia
