LABOKLIN Service ID: 3011
Material | serum 1 ml |
Method | photometry |
Duration | 1 day |
Remark | - Fructosamines are formed by an irreversible binding of glucose to serum proteins (glycosylation).
- Determination is used for the diagnosis and long-term monitoring of patients with diabetes mellitus, as the glucose bound to serum proteins reflects the average glucose level of the past 3 weeks. A distinction between spontaneous, stress-induced hyperglycaemia and diabetes mellitus is possible as well. Increased levels can also be found in case of hyperproteinaemia.
- Low fructosamine levels are associated with protein deficiency, increased protein metabolism or, in cats, also with hyperthyroidism.
- Horse: often increased in case of EMS
