γ-GT (γ-Glutamyl Transferase)

LABOKLIN Service ID: 9

Material

serum or EDTA plasma or heparin plasma 0.5 ml

Method

photometry

Duration

Reporting of results on the day the sample is received (Mon–Sat)

Remark

  • γ-GT is a membrane-bound enzyme found primarily in the liver and bile ducts. Elevated activity in serum/plasma occurs mainly in liver disease and cholestasis.
  • Horse: Significant increase in activity in cholestasis. Elevated concentrations may also be seen in other diseases with liver involvement (e.g. colic, enteritis).
  • Cattle: γ-GT correlates with the degree of hepatic fatty degeneration and parenchymal swelling.
  • After colostrum intake, ruminant neonates physiologically show very high γ-GT concentrations in serum/plasma during the first week of life.
