Remark

  • In dogs and cats, ALT is generally liver-specific; in horses, ruminants and pigs, however, it is hardly relevant, as there is little ALT activity in the liver.
  • The enzyme is found almost exclusively in the cytoplasm of hepatocytes. Even slight cell damage in the liver can cause the ALT concentration in serum to rise.
