Cortisol/ACTH Ratio

LABOKLIN Service ID: 1078

Diagnosis

Clarification of hypoadrenocorticism (Addison’s disease) – especially as an alternative if synthetic ACTH is not available for performing an ACTH stimulation test

Material

EDTA plasma 0.5 ml (plasma centrifuged immediately, pipetted off; frozen until arrival at the laboratory) + serum 0.5 ml

Parameter

Cortisol, ACTH

Method

CLIA

Species list

Dog

Duration

Reporting of results on the day the sample is received (Mon–Sat)

Assessment

  • Previous glucocorticoid treatment must be ruled out before assessment. Ratios below the cut-off value indicate the presence of primary hypoadrenocorticism (Addison’s disease).
  • Endogenous ACTH is unstable in sample material from dogs. Preanalytical requirements must be observed – see information under Material.
