Bile Acids

LABOKLIN Service ID: 128

  • Bile acid concentration correlates with liver function. In contrast to the determination of ammonia, which is very susceptible to faults and needs to be performed immediately after sampling, this parameter is very stable.
  • Elevation of bile acids can also indicate the existence of a portosystemic shunt.
  • Single determinations can lead to false positive results, therefore, the performance of bile acid stimulation tests is preferable – except in horses.
  • Please note that animals must fast 12 hours bevor sampling (except horses).
