Ca (Calcium)
LABOKLIN Service ID: 26
- More than 99% of the body´s calcium is stored in the bones. Calcium is, for example, involved in the transmission of nerve impulses, in muscle contractions and blood clotting.
- Hypercalcaemia occurs in hyperparathyroidism, but also due to tumours (malignant lymphoma, carcinoma) (see also Parathormone-rp).
- Nutritive hypercalcaemia in small mammals is partly due to vitamin D3-independent intestinal absorption.
- Hypocalcaemia is often the cause of parturient paresis in cattle and of an increased tendency for seizure disorders in small animals.
