Antithrombin III
LABOKLIN Service ID: 706
Antithrombin III is a glycoprotein synthesised in the liver. It acts as a physiological anticoagulant by irreversibly inhibiting activated coagulation factors, primarily thrombin (factor IIa) and factor Xa, thereby limiting the formation of fibrin and pathological thrombi. Deficiencies of antithrombin, whether congenital or acquired, result in an increased risk of venous thromboembolism due to insufficient protease inhibition.
