TRH Stimulation Test (2x TSH) (dog)

Additional testing for suspected hypothyroidism

Serum 2x 0.5 ml

• First blood collection = baseline value
• Injection of TRH (10 μg/kg bdw i.v.)
• Second sample 45 min post injection = stimulation value

TSH (samples 1 and 2)

Chemiluminescence assay (CLIA)

Reporting of results on the day the sample is received (Mon–Sat)

If the percentage increase in TSH remains below the cut-off, hypothyroidism is likely. rT3 provides further assistance in distinguishing hypothyroidism from non-thyroidal illness of decreased T4 concentration.
