- This test covers the third phase of coagulation, the change from fibrinogen to fibrin.
- It is recommended for monitoring the treatment with heparin or streptokinase as well as in cases of suspected disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). Temporarily lowered concentrations of fibrinogen are seen after intensive surgery as well as in cases of DIC.
- If DIC is suspected, the DIC profile may be used to confirm or disprove the diagnosis.
