LABOKLIN Service ID: 585

Material

faeces

Parameter

lungworm larvae

Method

Baermann technique

Duration

2 days

Remark

  • A Baermann test is indicated in cases of chronic cough and dyspnoea because of possible lungworm larvae infections.
  • Lungworms Angiostrongylus vasorum, Aelurostrongylus abstrusus, Crenosoma vulpis and Troglostrongylus brevior cannot only be detected by Baermann technique but also by PCR in blood and, if necessary, bronchoalveolar lavage as individual test (see Infectious Diseases: Pathogen and Antibody Detection / Parasites) as well as in the Lungworm Profile Dog and the Lungworm Profile Cat (see Profiles/Screenings – Small Animals / PCR Profiles).
  • In horses, bronchoalveolar lavage can also be tested.
