Material | serum or EDTA plasma or heparin plasma 0.5 ml |
Method | photometry |
Duration | 1 day |
Remark | - Although this membrane-bound enzyme is not liver specific, elevations occur practically only in cases of diseases of the liver and bile ducts.
- Horse: Elevated concentrations are indicative for cholestasis. Increased values also can be seen due to other diseases with liver involvement, e.g. colics, enteritidis and the like.
- Cattle: The γ-GT content strongly correlates with the degree of hepatic fatty degeneration and the swelling degree of the liver and margin of liver. Decreased levels of this enzyme indicate insufficient intake of colostrum in calves up to an age of approximately 1 week.
