| Remark | - Dog: Due to a metabolic disorder, increased levels of serum uric acid can occur especially in Dalmatians. Uric acid concrements in the urine and a characteristic brownish-yellowish discolouration of the coat (Bronzing syndrome) are of clinical significance. This metabolic disorder is mostly of genetic origin which can be confirmed with the genetic test Hyperuricosuria (HUU/SLC).
- Birds: Concentrations above 500 μmol/l point to nephropathies or exsiccosis.
- Reptiles: The levels of uric acid vary, depending on various factors, such as feed intake, protein content of the ration, season and species.
