Indications:

  • It was not possible to get a reliable histological/cytological diagnosis.
  • Screening for urothelial carcinoma (transitional cell carcinoma) in certain predisposed terrier breeds (e.g. Scottish Terrier, Fox Terrier, Jack Russell Terrier, West Highland White Terrier)
  • Difficult patient

  • urinary sediment (especially early morning urine; fluid + smear)
  • aspiration cytology (smears)
  • formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue (from previous histological examination)

Remark

Detection of BRAF variant V595E and copy number alterations (CNAs) 13/19 and 36/19.
Only a positive result is conclusive.
Reasons for negative results:

  • It is not a urothelial (transitional cell) carcinoma.
  • The urothelial (transitional cell) carcinoma is not caused by BRAF mutation or the CNAs 13/19 and 36/19.
  • There were no or too few relevant cells in the sample.
  • There is a marked inflammation.


  • The test for CNAs is not suitable for prostate carcinomas.
  • The test cannot be used for cats.
