LABOKLIN Service ID: 8358
Material | swab without medium (nose or pharynx), lavage (BAL), EDTA blood 0.2 ml (upon request, the detection from buffy coat is also possible, in this case, at least 5 ml EB is required) |
Method | realtime PCR |
Duration | 1 - 3 days |
Remark | - According to recent studies, it is recommended to also examine EB in parallel with the swabs/organ material.
- Blood test only secondary and only in febrile phase. From a positive buffy coat result, the conclusion can be drawn that the horse has come in contact with herpesviruses – whether this is acute or happened longer ago can often not be interpreted. In case of young horses, a blood test can be useful.
- The detection of EHV-4 and/or EHV-1 is also part of several profiles (see Profiles / Horse / PCR Profiles)
