  • This test covers the third phase of coagulation, the change from fibrinogen to fibrin.
  • It is recommended in cases of therapy monitoring of heparin or streptokinase as well as in cases of suspected disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) or intoxication with vitamin-K-antagonists. Temporarily lowered concentrations of fibrinogen are seen after intensive surgery as well as in cases of DIC.
  • In case of suspected DIC, the DIC profile may be used to confirm or disprove the diagnosis.
