Infections with Orthopoxvirus bovis can lead to so called „cat pox“ in cats, humans and recently reproted in rats as well. Biting and scratching due to itching will lead to necrotizing lesions. In immunodeficient indiviuals the infection can tunrinto systemic disease with severe and sometimes lethal pneumonias being prominent affection.
