• Can be used to differentiate between malabsorption and bacterial overgrowth or abnormal bacterial colonisation of the small intestine.
• To clarify the need for a parenteral substitution of B12 in exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.
• Cattle: Synthesis of vitamin B12 in the rumen can only take place insufficiently if too little cobalt is ingested with the feed. Vitamin B12 deficiency leads to disorders of the energy metabolism with lack of appetite, apathy, growth and performance depression and anaemia as well as possible diarrhoea.
