Remark<\/strong><\/td>

  • Smears from purulent material:<\/strong> A detection by culture from purulent material is often difficult as the bacteria are pre-damaged and therefore difficult to breed.<\/li>
  • Abscess material:<\/strong> Split the abscess cavity and swab the inside of the abscess membrane; requesting an anaerobic bacteriological examination is advisable, too.<\/li>
  • Bronchial lavage:<\/strong> For microbiological examination, lavage fluid should be sent by use of a swab with transport medium.<\/li>
  • Please state if Bordetella bronchiseptica and Histophilus somni<\/strong> are suspected, as special culture media are required! For the detection of Histophilus somni<\/strong> and Mannheimia haemolytica<\/strong>, a deep swab\r\nneeds to be taken. <\/li>
  • Ear smear:<\/strong> If a parasitological examination is also requested, a swab without medium must be sent in additionally.
    An antimycogram for Malassezia spp. is only prepared on special request.<\/li>
  • For aspirates from primarily sterile body cavities<\/strong>, the use of a Peds Plus\u2122 blood culture bottle is recommended; the sample material should not be cooled.<\/li>
  • If testing for actinomycetes and Nocardia<\/strong> is desired, it is to be requested separately.<\/li><\/ul>\r\n<\/p><\/td><\/tr><\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
