For many animal lovers and breeders, the physical appearance of an animal is an important factor in the decision to breed or buy an animal. The appearance and texture of the coat is the decisive external feature. The coat can have various structures, such as rough, smooth, long or short, in a wide variety of colours and patterns. Hair length, colour and pattern give many breeds their characteristic appearance and these characteristics are often decisive for the breeding standard. Genetic tests for certain characteristics are therefore of different importance for different breeds.<\/p>\n
