    General information<\/h3>\n

    For chronic recurrent bacterial infections, treatment with an autogenous vaccine (autovaccine) is an alternative and promising option. Such treatment also helps to counteract the development of resistance, as it can often reduce or avoid the administration of antibiotics.<\/p>\n

    Autogenous vaccines are individually produced for each animal from their own aerobic pathogens which are relevant for the infection \u2013 a previous culture test with pathogen isolation is required. It is also possible to produce an autovaccine for several animals that show the same signs. The aim of the treatment with autovaccines is to sensitise the immune system to the isolated pathogen(s) and to timulate the formation of specific antibodies.<\/p>\n

    Pathogen concentration, application method as well as application quantity, intervals and duration depend on the sampling site, clinical history and species. It should be noted that an autovaccine can only reach its full potential if underlying diseases have been excluded in advance through extensive diagnostics.<\/p>\n

    Preparation of an autovaccine<\/h5>\n

    An aerobic microbiological examination is performed of a sample of the affected organ system and the relevant pathogens are isolated. They are multiplied in pure culture, then inactivated and subsequently used to produce the vaccine.<\/p>\n
