Rickettsiae are a group of intracellular living coccoid or rod shaped bacteria that are transmitted by a vector (e.g. ticks, fleas, mites, lice). Rickettsia conorii is causative agent of Mediterranean spotted fever, transmitted by Rhipicephalus sanguineus. Rickettsia ricketsii infection causes canine hemorrhagic fever or Rocky mountain spotted fever. Vector is a Dermacentor tick.
