General information

Listeriosis is a disease that can affect many species including man. Nowadays this disease is an extremely rare condition with farm outbreak being possible. Poor quality big bale silage presents a particular risk.

In sheep most commonly encountered is meningo-encephalitis, but anterior uveitis (silage eye), abortion and neonatal septicaemia are sometimes seen while in one herd usually all affected animals show similar signs. Typical sign is walking compulsively in circles.
