  • Test with high sensitivity and specificity; indications: if the results\nof ACTH determination or of the suppression test do not correlate\nwith clinical findings or are not conclusive.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/p><\/td><\/tr>

EDTA plasma 2 x 0.5 ml (centrifuged, pipette off and cool soon after sampling)<\/p><\/td><\/tr>

Execution<\/strong><\/td>

  • first blood collection = baseline value<\/li>
  • Directly followed by slow i.v. injection of 1 mg TRH for horses >250 kg (horses <250 kg: 0.5 mg)<\/li>
  • Second blood collection after exactly 10 min = stimulation value<\/li>Third blood sample can additionally be taken 30 minutes after TRH administration<\/li><\/ul><\/p><\/td><\/tr>

borderline: 100-200 pg\/ml; positive: > 200 pg\/ml
Cut off 30 min after stimulation: < 40 pg\/ml;
borderline: 40-90 pg\/ml; positive: > 90 pg\/ml
These values apply to the months of January to June.\r\nThe stimulation test is not recommended from July to December.
