At Laboklin, we have successfully detected the pathogen by PCR in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in a horse.\r\nIn cattle, EDTA blood (or serum) is considered as a suitable sample. However, we have not yet been able to detect the pathogen in horses using this method. Current evidence suggests that the viraemic phase in horses is brief, thus limiting the window for detecting the pathogen in blood.
