Factor VII  (FVII) deficiency

Breed

Beagle, Scottish Deerhound, Giant Schnauzer, Airdale Terrier and Alaskan Klee Kai

Notes

Factor VII (FVII) deficiency, an autosomal recessive trait originally identified in Beagles, is associated with a mild to moderate bleeding. Recently, the mutation responsible for this recessive trait has been identified by Dr Urs Giger and researchers at the University of Pennsylvania. Factor VII  is one of the central proteins in the coagulation cascade. The lack of this protein leads to mild to severe bleeding tendency. The responsible mutation is found in Beagles, Alaskan Klee Kais, Scottish Deerhounds and Kerry Blue Terriers. The disease is inherited as a recessive trait.
